Mercedes-Benz has placed India at the heart of its global '140 Years. 140 Places.' campaign, transforming the country into a vibrant backdrop for celebrating more than a century of automotive innovation. Rather than focusing on performance figures or product specifications, the luxury automaker is using storytelling, culture, and heritage to commemorate its historic milestone.
The campaign marks 140 years since the invention of the automobile by Carl Benz and forms part of Mercedes-Benz's most extensive global brand initiative to date. As part of the celebration, three flagship S-Class sedans are traveling across 140 iconic destinations on six continents, covering nearly 50,000 kilometres before returning to Stuttgart in October 2026.
The India leg of the journey showcases some of the country's most breathtaking landscapes and culturally significant destinations. Beginning in Srinagar, the convoy travels through Kargil, Leh, Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Pune, Hampi, Siliguri, and several other locations before continuing into Bhutan.
By highlighting India's natural beauty, historic landmarks, and rich traditions, Mercedes-Benz is positioning the country as an essential chapter in its global brand story rather than simply another stop on its international route.
Unlike traditional automotive advertisements that emphasize speed, luxury features, or engineering, this initiative focuses on creating emotional connections through travel and storytelling.
The campaign film captures dramatic Himalayan roads, bustling cities, and historic monuments while portraying the S-Class as a symbol carrying 140 years of innovation across the world. This travel-inspired narrative allows Mercedes-Benz to celebrate its heritage while showcasing the diversity and character of every destination it visits.
The global expedition began in Germany, retracing the company's origins through historic Mercedes-Benz landmarks before expanding across Europe, South America, North America, and Asia.
Throughout the journey, the S-Class visits world-famous cities and landmarks while engaging with customers, automotive enthusiasts, and local communities. India represents one of the campaign's most culturally diverse segments, offering a unique blend of history, architecture, and scenic landscapes.
Mercedes-Benz is complementing the road trip with continuous digital content, including videos, behind-the-scenes footage, and travel updates across its online platforms. Instead of relying solely on conventional advertising, the company aims to strengthen customer engagement through authentic experiences and immersive storytelling.
Company executives describe the initiative as an opportunity to bring Mercedes-Benz's rich heritage closer to customers while celebrating the global legacy of the automobile.
With the '140 Years. 140 Places.' campaign, Mercedes-Benz demonstrates how modern brand storytelling can go beyond product promotion. By combining automotive heritage with cultural exploration, the company is creating a memorable global journey that celebrates innovation, connects with audiences, and highlights India's significance on the world stage.
