Sintex Builds on Five Decades of Brand Recall With New Campaign
Sintex is turning one of its strongest brand assets its name into the centrepiece of a new campaign designed to reinforce its leadership in India’s water storage category.
Conceptualised in collaboration with creative agency Sideways, the campaign highlights how strongly the Sintex name is associated with water tanks in everyday consumer conversations. Over the past five decades, the brand has become so closely linked with the category that consumers often use “Sintex” as a generic reference to water tanks, even when considering products from other brands.
Rather than treating this as simply a challenge, the campaign turns the phenomenon into a memorable brand-building opportunity.
Turning Familiarity Into Brand Differentiation
The campaign is built around a relatable retail interaction that captures a common consumer behaviour. Through a simple and humorous situation, Sintex reminds audiences that while several companies manufacture water tanks today, the original Sintex remains distinct.
The creative approach focuses on brand recall at one of the most important moments in the consumer journey the point of purchase. By connecting a familiar everyday behaviour with its brand legacy, Sintex aims to strengthen its association with quality, durability and trust.
The campaign also builds on the brand's long-standing proposition, “Tanki Matlab Sintex,” which has become deeply embedded in consumer memory.
From Category Leader to Category Icon
Sintex’s positioning is rooted in its five-decade presence in India’s water storage market. The brand has built recognition across generations by establishing a strong association between its name and the water tank category.
With the new campaign, Sintex is looking to reinforce that association while making an important distinction: not every water tank is a Sintex tank.
The messaging allows the brand to leverage its category-level recall while simultaneously reminding consumers to identify and choose the original brand when making a purchase.
A Simple Idea With Strong Brand Recall
According to Yashovardhan Agarwal, Director, Sintex and Managing Director, Welspun BAPL, the campaign builds on the trust Sintex has developed over generations and uses its iconic brand association to reinforce quality, reliability and informed consumer choice.
Abhijit Avasthi, Founder, Sideways, said the campaign addresses the unique challenge faced by brands that become synonymous with an entire category. Instead of relying on an aggressive claim, the creative uses a familiar retail situation to deliver a simple reminder about choosing the original.
The campaign represents another step in Sintex’s ongoing brand-building journey, using its strongest asset — consumer recognition to reinforce its leadership and differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive water storage market.
With decades of heritage behind the brand, Sintex is now using familiarity not just as a measure of recognition, but as a strategic tool to strengthen its connection with consumers.
