Meta has introduced a test version of Instagram for TV, allowing users to watch Reels on bigger screens. Currently rolling out in the US on Amazon Fire TV devices, the feature transforms short-form video into a more relaxed, lean-back viewing experience.
Content is organised into interest-based channels such as music, sports, travel, and trending clips. Once a channel is selected, Reels play automatically with sound, removing the need for continuous scrolling.
Users can log in with their existing Instagram accounts or connect via their mobile devices. The platform also supports multiple profiles, enabling personalised feeds for different household members.
Meta stated that this test aims to understand how Reels perform in shared environments like living rooms. The TV experience follows Instagram’s existing content guidelines, similar to a PG-13 rating, and includes teen safety features and screen-time controls.
Future updates may include phone-based navigation, enhanced browsing, and more interactive shared viewing features. The rollout is currently limited, with plans to expand to more devices and regions over time.
