Nostalgia continues to be a powerful force in India's brand and marketing landscape, and Miraggio is the latest brand to tap into it with a distinctly fashion-first approach.
The Indian handbag and accessories brand has partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to launch a limited-edition collection inspired by the globally popular sitcom FRIENDS. Launched on July 28, the collection brings together the show's familiar cultural appeal with Miraggio's contemporary design language.
Rather than turning the collection into conventional television merchandise, Miraggio has chosen a more understated approach. FRIENDS-inspired elements have been integrated subtly into the products, allowing the collection to retain the visual identity and premium positioning associated with the brand.
From nostalgia to a fashion statement
For Miraggio founder and CEO Mohit Jain, the collaboration began with a larger consumer trend rather than a specific intellectual property.
Nostalgia was identified as a strong cultural and marketing opportunity, prompting the team to explore properties that could create an emotional connection with consumers. FRIENDS emerged as a natural fit because of its continued relevance among millennials while also finding an audience among Gen Z.
The sitcom's enduring appeal lies in its ability to evoke familiarity and comfort. Even more than two decades after its finale, FRIENDS continues to feature in everyday conversations, social media culture and brand collaborations.
Miraggio wanted to capture that emotional familiarity without making the products feel like fan merchandise.
According to Jain, maintaining the essence of Miraggio remained a priority throughout the collaboration. Instead of directly reproducing recognisable characters or overt visual elements from the show, the collection incorporates FRIENDS references in a more refined manner.
This approach also allows the products to appeal to consumers who may enjoy the cultural association with FRIENDS without necessarily considering themselves hardcore fans.
FRIENDS becomes a growing brand property
Miraggio's collaboration comes amid a wider trend of Indian brands using FRIENDS nostalgia to build consumer connections.
Jewellery brand CaratLane launched a FRIENDS-inspired fine jewellery collection in 2025, while Swiss Beauty introduced a FRIENDS-inspired makeup range through its CRAZE brand in 2026. The Souled Store has also built an established portfolio of official FRIENDS merchandise in India.
Miraggio, however, is positioning its collaboration differently — as a fashion collection inspired by a cultural property rather than a straightforward merchandise play.
The brand describes its collaborations as "purpose-driven", with future partnerships expected to span artists, designers, international celebrities and entertainment properties depending on the objective of each campaign.
Digital-first promotion with experiential PR
The FRIENDS collection is being promoted primarily through digital marketing, with content creators, public relations and experiential gifting forming key parts of the campaign.
As part of the launch, Miraggio has created a FRIENDS-themed PR box featuring a sofa alongside products and charms from the collection. Around 50–60 selected recipients are expected to receive the experiential package.
Interestingly, despite the brand's visible association with creators and influencers, influencer marketing represents a relatively small component of its overall marketing expenditure.
Jain says less than 1% of Miraggio's overall spend is allocated to influencers, while influencer marketing contributes less than 20% of the company's branding budget. Content creation receives a larger share of the branding investment, reflecting Miraggio's focus on building a strong visual identity around its products.
Miraggio's next chapter: offline retail
The FRIENDS collaboration arrives at an important stage in Miraggio's growth journey.
Having built much of its business through online channels, the brand is now accelerating its offline expansion to strengthen its premium positioning and create a more immersive consumer experience.
Miraggio plans to establish 10 company-owned and company-operated stores by March 2027, with Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Bengaluru and other markets being considered for expansion.
The company expects individual outlets to generate average monthly sales of more than Rs 20 lakh. Retail is also projected to contribute between Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 2 crore in monthly revenue by the end of the year.
Unlike a franchise-led strategy, Miraggio is choosing to retain ownership and operational control of its stores. This gives the brand greater control over visual merchandising, store design, customer experience and how its premium positioning is communicated offline.
Its first standalone store in Chennai became an important test case for this strategy.
The company had initially explored markets such as Delhi-NCR and Mumbai but eventually selected Chennai after finding a suitable ground-floor location alongside premium and luxury brands.
A more premium product strategy
Miraggio's offline expansion is also expected to introduce consumers to products that sit at a more premium end of its portfolio.
The company plans to develop a separate product line for its physical stores, including select designs that will not be available through its online channels or marketplaces.
This strategy could help Miraggio differentiate its retail experience while giving customers a reason to visit its physical stores beyond simply purchasing products available online.
The expansion follows a Rs 55-crore funding round led by RPSG Capital Ventures and Client Associates in 2025.
Building an aspirational Indian accessories brand
Miraggio currently focuses on women between the ages of 24 and 35 across Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
The brand describes its target consumer as independent, socially active, experience-oriented and conscious of personal style.
Its larger ambition is to establish itself as an aspirational Indian accessories brand competing across the premium and entry-luxury segments, against both Indian D2C players and international brands.
The FRIENDS collaboration fits into a broader strategy of using culture, personalities and creative partnerships to keep the brand relevant.
Miraggio has previously collaborated with personalities including Shanaya Kapoor and Shalini Wagh, alongside its annual Valentine's Day launches. The company plans to execute around three to four larger collection launches each year, backed by increased branding and activation investments, while continuing to introduce new collections on a monthly basis.
According to Jain, Miraggio has recorded annual growth of more than 120% over the past three years. While the company has not disclosed future revenue targets, its current strategy points towards continued investment in brand building, retail and premiumisation.
For now, the focus remains firmly on India. With significant headroom in the domestic accessories market, the company does not have immediate plans for international expansion.
For Miraggio, the FRIENDS collection therefore represents more than a nostalgia-led collaboration. It reflects a larger brand strategy taking a familiar cultural moment, translating it into contemporary fashion and using it to deepen the emotional connection between the brand and its consumers.
