Sourav Ganguly Reappointed as ICC Men’s Cricket Committee Chairperson: A Strong Team of Global Icons Assembles
In a move that reinforces continuity and strategic vision in international cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has reappointed Sourav Ganguly as the chairperson of its men’s cricket committee. The decision, announced on Sunday, also includes the return of VVS Laxman, Ganguly’s longtime teammate and another stalwart of Indian cricket, as one of the committee members.

Ganguly, who served as India’s captain from 2000 to 2005, was first appointed to this prestigious ICC role in 2021, taking over from Anil Kumble, who completed his tenure after serving the maximum of three terms (nine years). Now aged 52, Ganguly’s leadership and deep cricketing insights continue to guide the global game in its evolution.

A Diverse and Powerful Panel
The reconstituted ICC Men’s Cricket Committee features a blend of experience, current relevance, and geographical diversity. Members include:

Hamid Hassan – former Afghanistan fast bowler known for his contributions during the country’s rise in world cricket

Desmond Haynes – legendary West Indies opener and cricketing statesman

Temba Bavuma – current South Africa captain in both Tests and ODIs, offering an active player’s perspective

Jonathan Trott – former England batter and now a respected coach, including his current role with Afghanistan’s national team

Together, this group brings a wide lens to the game, balancing insights from emerging nations, present-day realities, and the game’s storied history.

Driving Inclusivity: Support for Afghan Women Cricketers
In a landmark initiative, the ICC also announced the creation of a task force and support fund dedicated to displaced Afghan women cricketers, ensuring they are not left behind. This initiative is part of a high-performance programme focused on creating opportunities for women affected by socio-political disruption.

Jay Shah, ICC Board Member and BCCI Secretary, shared the vision behind this initiative:

“At the ICC, we are deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and ensuring every cricketer has the opportunity to shine, regardless of their circumstances.”

This global outreach signifies a renewed commitment to equity, empowerment, and inclusion in cricket.

New Leadership for Women’s Cricket Committee
The ICC also revealed its new women’s cricket committee lineup. At the helm is Catherine Campbell, a former New Zealand off-spinner with deep experience in both playing and administration. She is joined by:

Avril Fahey – former Australian cricketer with strong ties to player development

Pholetsi Moseki – Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) current CEO, bringing strategic and administrative expertise

This trio is expected to guide the continued rise of women’s cricket globally, at a time when the sport is experiencing unprecedented growth in viewership, participation, and investment.
