Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. has announced the appointment of Tejkarran Singh Bajaj as the new Business Head of Zee5 India, marking a significant leadership move as the company strengthens its focus on digital growth and streaming innovation.
The appointment comes at a crucial time for Zee5 as competition intensifies across India's OTT ecosystem. With audience preferences evolving rapidly and platforms increasingly investing in technology, content, and consumer experiences, Zee5 is looking to accelerate its next phase of growth under Bajaj's leadership.
In his new role, Bajaj will oversee Zee5 India's overall business strategy, including content, user engagement, monetisation, partnerships, and digital innovation initiatives. He will also play a key role in driving AI-powered capabilities and enhancing the platform's user experience as Zee continues to invest in future-ready technologies.
Based in Mumbai, Bajaj will report to Amit Goenka, President – Digital Businesses & Platforms, International Linear Business, Enterprise Technology and Broadcast Operations & Engineering.
What makes this appointment particularly noteworthy is Bajaj's deep association with Zee5 itself. He was part of the platform's founding leadership team and played a pivotal role in shaping its original content strategy during its formative years. Several of Zee5's early original productions were commissioned under his leadership, helping establish the platform's identity in India's competitive streaming market.
Most recently, Bajaj served as Senior Vice President and Head – Originals at Jio Studios, where he led the development of original content across multiple genres, languages, and OTT partnerships. His experience spans more than two decades across television, digital media, OTT platforms, branded content, audience growth, and platform strategy.
Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions at prominent media and entertainment organizations including GroupM's Maxus, NDTV, Endemol India, Miditech, and Essel Vision Productions. This diverse experience provides him with a unique understanding of content creation, audience behaviour, and business growth across multiple media formats.
The appointment also reflects Zee's broader strategy to strengthen its digital business while improving profitability and exploring new revenue opportunities. As part of the leadership restructuring, Siju Prabhakaran will now focus on expanding Zee5's international business operations and global footprint.
The OTT industry is currently undergoing a period of transformation, with platforms balancing subscriber growth, content investments, advertising revenue, and profitability. In this environment, leadership with a strong blend of content expertise, business acumen, and digital innovation becomes increasingly important.
Bajaj's return signals Zee5's intention to combine its existing strengths in content and regional reach with newer opportunities in technology, AI-driven personalisation, and platform innovation.
As India's streaming market continues to evolve, industry observers will be watching closely to see how Zee5 leverages Bajaj's experience to strengthen its position against both domestic and international competitors.
For Zee5, this is more than a leadership appointment- it is a strategic step toward building the next chapter of its digital growth story.
